Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Animal Control Field Supervisor, performs a variety of duties in connection with the capture, control and care of stray, unlicensed or uncontrolled animals in designated areas of Cook County.
Operates an animal control vehicle in assigned areas in connection with such duties utilizes a net, snare, rope, tranquilizer rifle/pistol or other device as necessary to subdue or incapacitate the animal.
Explains, interprets and enforces all sections of the Cook County Animal & Rabies Control Ordinance, Illinois Animal Control Act, Illinois Humane Care for Animals Act, Illinois and other state and local laws pertaining to animal care and control.
Issues warning/citations to violators of animal related ordinances and statutes; investigate and resolves complaints regarding stray, unlicensed or uncontrolled animals.
Assists villages and municipalities in special assignments regarding animal related problems; investigates animal bite, and dangerous /vicious dog reports as required.
May have to Euthanize animals.
Ensures the proper use, storage, and application of County property in connection with such duties, including controlled substances', weapons, vehicles, and related equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
* Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate IS REQUIRED .
* One (1) year of full-time work experience in the care, control or handling of domestic and other wildlife IS REQUIRED .
* Must be certified in OR must be willing to obtain certification in Chemical Immobilization within six (6) months of employment.
* Must be certified as OR must become certified as a Euthanasia Technician within six (6) months of employment.
* Valid Driver's License IS REQUIRED .
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
* Knowledge of Illinois Animal Rabies Control Law and County, municipal and village ordinances involving dog control as they apply within the jurisdiction of Cook County.
* Knowledge of the Illinois Humane Care for Animals Act and willingness and ability to comply with its mandates.
* Knowledge and understanding of basic computer operations.
* Skilled in basic mathematics, writing and oral communication.
* Ability to provide written and oral reports, complete forms, records and documentation as necessary.
* Ability to work under adverse weather and physical conditions.
* Ability and willingness to work with wild and domestic animals.
Familiarity with the habitations, behavior and natural tendencies of such animals as may be encountered in the course of the above duties.
