Vision Reviewing Physician Consultant (BID)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive, independent vision consultations through audits of physical examinations conducted by Doctors of Optometry, in accordance with program guidelines, clinical standards, and federal hiring requirements.
- Review and evaluate medical records, diagnostic findings, and vision related documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Prepare clear, concise, and clinically supported written final vision determinations regarding candidate suitability, applying expertise in forensic law enforcement and/or military screening standards as applicable.
- Provide clinical guidance, coaching, and training to clinicians as needed to support quality, consistency, and adherence to standards.
- Maintain working knowledge of Office of Personnel Management (OPM) medical and suitability policies and ensure all consultations reflect current clinical best practices, regulatory requirements, and program objectives.
Safeguard confidential medical information in compliance with HIPAA and all applicable federal guidelines.
- Participate in quality assurance activities to support program integrity and consistency.
- Act as a trusted advisor by providing input on process and policy improvements within the program scope.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with program managers, clinicians, and other internal stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree with a current, active, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a U.S.
state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- American Board certification in optometry (required at minimum).
- Minimum six years of professional experience demonstrating knowledge of forensic law enforcement and/or military hiring or screening processes, and familiarity with Office of Personnel Management (OPM) policies related to federal hiring.
- Demonstrated ability to produce written clinical recommendations and expert assessments requiring independent professional judgment.
