Product Engineer
Primary Responsibilities:
* Responsible for coordinating manufacturing processes for assigned optical fiber product lines.
This includes ensuring product yields are tracked and yield targets are met.
Over time, your knowledge will expand to all product lines.
* Track process performances and develop numerical tools to quantify process capabilities (i.e.
Statistical Process Control (SPC))
* Identify proactive action plans to improve product yield and quality over time.
Propose potential process improvements, quantify opportunities, and present ideas to the wider engineering team.
* Design and execute experiments to assess process improvement towards more repeatable, more stable, and more cost-effective manufacturing
* Design and execute validation plans to quantify process transfer or process improvements against targets
* Define and write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work with Operations teams to implement new procedures into production.
Participate in training as needed.
* Support business growth by participating in New Product Development initiatives.
Work with R&D and Production teams to qualify new process/products.
* Learn Optical Fiber fabrication techniques - Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition (MCVD), Over-collapse (OC) and Fiber Draw - used at Coherent
* Gain expertise in manufacturing processes via daily interaction with technical teams and production staff
Education and Work Experience:
Required Qualifications:
* B.S.
and/or M.S.
degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or scientific field such as Materials Science or Physics
* 2+ years of experience as a process or product engineer
* Experience with data analysis, including knowledge of JMP, Minitab or similar statistical software
* Mastery of MS Office Suite
Desired Qualifications:
* Knowledge and understanding of fiber manufacturing processes
* Project or team management experience
* Knowledge of 5S and Lean practices, including Green Belt or Black Belt certification x
