Your Role
The Mechanical Engineering Intern will support the development team on active engineering projects, with a focus on design optimization for manufacturability, assembly, and test, as well as continuous product improvement.
This role will also partner closely with manufacturing to help implement and improve modular testing capabilities.
The intern will gain hands-on experience applying engineering principles in a collaborative product development environment while contributing to real-world design, documentation, and testing initiatives.
Essential Tasks
* Support engineers with design updates and optimization efforts for existing products and development projects, with emphasis on design for manufacturability, assembly, and test, as well as cost and quality improvement.
* Create and revise 3D models, assemblies, and drawings in SolidWorks based on engineering direction and project needs.
* Assist with engineering documentation and drawing updates within SolidWorks EPDM.
* Collaborate with manufacturing to develop, implement, and improve modular testing capabilities and related fixtures, processes, or documentation.
* Review designs and drawings to identify opportunities for improvement, inconsistencies, or issues that may affect production, assembly, or testing.
* Help evaluate and investigate design or process anomalies, summarize findings, and communicate recommendations to the team.
* Generate supporting documentation, reports, and project updates using standard Microsoft Office tools.
* Track assigned tasks and report progress to engineering team members.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
* High school senior, technical school student, or college student pursuing mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical field.
* Coursework or project experience in CAD, mechanical design, drafting, or manufacturing processes preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
* Working knowledge of SolidWorks preferred; AutoCAD experience is a plus.
* Interest in mechanical design, product development, and design optimization for manufacturability, assembly, and test.
* Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a hands-on engineering environment.
* Ability to interpret markups, drawings, and technical instructions.
* Basic analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
