Special Events Coordinator (Park Facilities Coordinator)
Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District has an exciting opportunity for a Special Events Coordinator (Park Facilities Coordinator) in Riverside.
The Special Events Coordinator plays a key role in planning, organizing, and promoting community programs and special events throughout the Regional Parks, Nature Centers, and Open-Space District.
The Coordinator will support and expand a variety of community-focused programs, including the Outdoor Equity initiative, free family events, fishing clinics, veterans-focused mental health events, and other public programs designed to connect residents with nature and recreational opportunities.
These activities help remove barriers to visiting regional parks, nature centers, and historic sites, improve access to essential services, and enhance the overall quality of life for county residents.
This role works closely with the District Marketing Team to grow and promote high-quality, inclusive events across all District facilities.
In addition, the position supports Volunteer Services, including episodic volunteers, the Adopt-a-Trail program, camp hosts and caretakers, and volunteer-focused events.
This is an active, hands-on role that involves physical work such as event setup and teardown, often on Saturdays.
Candidates must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and around animals commonly found in park environments.
The department desires candidates with prior event planning or program planning experience such as those who have a background in community events and volunteer activities.
A background in Parks & Recreation or a closely related field is highly desirable.
Those with strong organizational, leadership, communication, time management and decision-making skills are encouraged to apply!
Competitive candidates will possess:
* Experience in event planning, community program coordination, or volunteer program management.
* Knowledge of permitting processes (e.g., fire and health inspections) and event sponsorship strategies.
* Proven experience in program coordination.
* Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers.
* Strong organizational, time management, leadership, and communication skills
* The ability to manage a balanced budget across multiple events and programs.
This is a unique opportunity for a motivated and community-minded professional to help shape the public's engagement with parks, recreation, and nature-based programming.
Please note that this position works a Monday-Friday 5/40 schedule and is expected to work every other Saturday.
Occasional weekends, holidays, and evenings are required.
