Junior Linux System Administrator

Job-Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Primary point of contact for all Tier 1 issues.

- Accurately prioritize, categorize, escalate and manage incidents by impact to business or established SLA's.

- Self-Starter and able to work independently with the ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and projects with minimal supervision.

- Ability to work a flexible schedule.

- Good oral and written communication skills, and ability to address conflict with others constructively.

- Demonstrated ability to build trusted advisor relationships with clients.

Job-Specific Minimum Requirements:

- Due to Federal requirements, candidates must be U.S.

citizens who do not hold dual citizenship with another country.

- Bachelor's Degree or Associate Degree with relevant work experience.

- Candidate must reside within a commutable distance to Tyson's Corner, Virginia, and be available to travel to the work site as needed.

- At least 2 years of work-related experience.

- Previous customer service or helpdesk experience.

- Hands-on Linux administration experience with familiarity with user/group management, permissions, services, filesystem management, and basic performance monitoring.

- Understanding of core AWS operations principles such as provisioning and troubleshooting EC2, managing S3 buckets, basic IAM (users, roles, policies), and understanding VPC constructs (subnets, route tables, security groups).

- Shell scripting (Bash) experience to automate routine tasks such as log rotation, backups, and application maintenance related tasks.

- Monitoring and logging familiarity in both the Linux OS and AWS platform.

- Understanding of patching and configuration maintenance.

- Strong troubleshooting fundamentals.

- Familiarity and experience with networking basics.

- Access management and security hygiene: SSH key management, least-privilege IAM, MFA usage, credential rotation, and secrets handling basics.

- Backup/restore basics: creating and validating instance snapshots/AMI images, S3 lifecycle concepts, and simple recovery procedures.

- Ticketing and incident workflows: prioritizing, escalating, and documenting incidents in line with SLAs and change management practices.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

- Linux certifications such as CompTIA Linux+, LPIC-1/2, and RHCSA.

- AWS foundational certification such as Certified Cloud Practitioner.

- Knowledge of project management methodologies and techniques.
