Job Summary:
The Evidence Custodian provides evidence control services in support of Inspection Service investigations. The Evidence Custodian will be specifically engaged in the collection of High Value Evidence (HVE) and Low Value Evidence (LVE) from Inspectors for safekeeping in accordance with Inspection Service guidelines.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
* Demonstrated knowledge of federal statutes and the federal rules of criminal and civil procedure;
* Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws and regulations;
* Ability to interpret and apply Federal and State law along with Inspection Service policies and procedures.
* Knowledge of the basic organization and functions of a law enforcement agency and Federal, State
* courtroom settings;
* Proficiency in the operation of property/evidence controls with emphasis on a computerized bar code property management system;
* Familiarity with evidence control procedures and chain of custody requirements;
* Extensive experience in communicating orally and in writing;
* Demonstrated extensive experience showing the ability to work independently;
* Demonstrated significant ability to prepare a final work product;
* Demonstrated experience executing the principles and procedures of record keeping;
* Experience with modern office procedures, methods, computer equipment; and Microsoft Office products;
* Ability to maintain relationships with Inspection Service and Postal Service employees as well as other law enforcement and governmental organizations.

* Assist in the design of High Value Evidence (HVE) and Low Value Evidence (LVE) rooms and provide continual assessments of the space and storage needs of the division evidence storage locations.
