Job Title: Registered Dietitian - Nursing Facility
Job Summary
The Registered Dietitian (RD) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and monitoring nutritional care for residents in a nursing facility.
The Dietitian works closely with physicians, nurses, and dietary staff to ensure residents receive appropriate nutrition therapy that supports health, recovery, and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct nutritional assessments for residents upon admission and regularly thereafter.
* Develop and implement individualized nutrition care plans based on residents' medical conditions, dietary needs, and preferences.
* Monitor residents' nutritional status, weight trends, lab values, and food intake.
* Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team (physicians, nurses, therapists, and social workers).
* Provide medical nutrition therapy for conditions such as diabetes, renal disease, malnutrition, and dysphagia.
* Ensure menus meet regulatory guidelines and nutritional standards for long-term care facilities.
* Review and approve therapeutic diets and modified texture diets.
* Participate in care conferences and quality improvement programs.
* Educate residents, families, and staff on nutrition-related topics.
* Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to dietary services in long-term care.
* Monitor food service operations and sanitation practices in collaboration with dietary management.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field.
* Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
* State licensure as required.
* Experience in long-term care or clinical nutrition preferred.
* Knowledge of CMS, state regulations, and nutritional standards for nursing homes.
Skills and Competencies
* Strong knowledge of medical nutrition therapy.
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
* Ability to analyze clinical data and document care plans.
* Attention to regulatory compliance and documentation accuracy.
* Compassionate approach to working with elderly residents.
Working Conditions
* Work is performed primarily within a long-term care or skilled nursing facility.
* Interaction with residents who may have chronic illnesses, cognitive impairments, or mobility limitations.
* May require standing, walking through kitchen and resident care areas, and reviewing food service operations.
