Group Leader - Assembly

Department: Assembly
Reports To: Production Manager / Production Supervisor
Employment Status: Full-Time | Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The Group Leader - Assembly (Indirect) is a hands-on leadership role responsible for coordinating daily work assignments, ensuring materials are available at workstations, and supporting the Production Manager/Supervisor in achieving safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.

This role serves as a key link between leadership and hourly team members, driving execution, accountability, and continuous improvement on the production floor.

Key Responsibilities


* Lead and coordinate daily assembly operations to ensure production, quality, financial, and safety targets are met



* Assign and communicate work instructions clearly to team members



* Actively participate in assembly operations in accordance with sales orders and quality standards



* Monitor work-in-progress and finished products to ensure compliance with quality, efficiency, and productivity goals



* Identify, analyze, and assist in resolving assembly and workflow issues



* Complete required documentation and production tracking, including JDE and DSI reporting



* Enforce and model proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)



* Open and close the facility as required, ensuring all shift start-up and shutdown activities are completed



* Monitor equipment condition and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime



* Operate tools and machinery as required to meet departmental deliverables



* Support the development and implementation of standardized work processes to improve quality, reduce costs, and meet production schedules



* Assist with training and cross-training initiatives to build team capability and flexibility



* Ensure adherence to company policies and the Masterack Employee Handbook



* Partner with Production Manager/Supervisor on hiring, coaching, performance management, and disciplinary actions

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


* High school diploma or equivalent required



* Prior experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment



* Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team toward shared goals



* Proficiency using hand and power tools and production equipment



* Strong attention to detail with the ability to verify quality and proper assembly



* Basic math skills



* Effective verbal and written communication skills



* Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel



* Ability to work overtime on short notice as business needs require

Physical Requirements


* Ability to stand for extended periods



* Frequent walking throughout the production floor, including climbing ladders or equipment



* Regular bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and crawling



* Ability to visually inspect materials, assemblies, and equipment



* Frequent lifting and moving of materials up to 50 lbs
