Title: Documentarian Individual Placement
Location: Shenandoah National Park Headquarters; Luray, VA
Position Dates: May 18, 2026 – March 26th, 2027 (45 weeks)
Pay Rate: $750 per week ($600/stipend + $150/additional benefit) and a Segal Education Award of $5,176.50 upon completion of term
Status: 40 hours/week, Full-Time/Temporary AmeriCorps National Service Position

About Us:
Our Individual Placement program works to connect young people to conservation service work across Appalachia and neighboring communities in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, DC, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Appalachian Conservation Corps is a program of Conservation Legacy, a nationwide network of conservation organizations.
As an AmeriCorps program, participants commit to a term of service at their placement site in order to gain hands-on experience and a variety of benefits to help them succeed in achieving their career goals.
ACC welcomes national applicants but also emphasizes the engagement of local individuals who represent the communities in which they serve.
Position Summary:

The Documentarian Individual Placement position is based at Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.
Shenandoah National Park is a 200,000-acre national park with over 500 miles of hiking trails and rich natural and cultural history.
This position is in the visual media department which creates all the visual media (print, exhibits, social media, web, film, etc.) for the park.
Throughout their term, this Individual Placement will serve as a documentarian in Shenandoah National Park during the park’s 90-year anniversary. This member will provide media coverage at special events and partner projects, record oral histories with park staff—past and present, and develop a catalog for historical preservation. Additionally, they will assist the visual media team in other work.
They will get to interact with park and partner staff, volunteers, and other interns to seek out and tell various stories through visual media.
Main Responsibilities:
* Maintain effective communication with supervisor through check-ins and a project workplan.
* Document the park’s current cultural and natural landscapes (structures, viewsheds, employees etc.) for historical value and the upcoming 90th celebration in 2026.
* Develop an editorial calendar for promotion of special events, partner projects and historical events on social media platforms.
