Automotive Mechanic I

The County of Riverside's Purchasing and Fleet Department has an opportunity for an Automotive Mechanic I who will be assigned to the Fleet Services Division in Riverside.

The Automotive Mechanic I will be responsible for performing as a mechanic in the overhauling and repairing of passenger vehicles and light trucks; and performs other related duties as required.

Competitive candidates will possess experience utilizing fleet management systems, such as FASTER Asset Solutions, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Excel.

Previous automotive maintenance experience in a dealership or public sector environment is also highly desirable.

Selected applicants will be required to supply their own personal hand tools; all other tools (e.g., lifts, brake machines) will be provided.

This position follows a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off.

Regular work hours are 7:00 a.m.

to 4:30 p.m., with a 7:00 a.m.

to 3:30 p.m.

shift on the alternating Friday worked.

Meet the Team!

The Purchasing and Fleet Services Department's primary function is to provide vehicles, goods and services to other County Departments and agencies within the County of Riverside.

Providing a unified purchasing system that ensures integrity and fairness, with centralized responsibility for oversight of solicitation, vendor selection, negotiation, award, contract management, reporting, disposal of surplus property and emergency logistical support for the benefit of Riverside County agencies.• Inspect and diagnose mechanical failures and defects in a variety of light automotive vehicles.

• Rebuild, replace, or repair engines, transmissions, differentials, starters, generators, brakes, clutches, axles, steering gears, cooling systems, and other mechanical and electrical assemblies.

• Perform complete tune-ups on ignition systems; diagnose, and repair.

• May operate wrecking trucks and perform rough welding; maintain time and material records.

OPTION I

Experience: Two years in the repair and overhaul of automotive equipment performed under the supervision of a journey level automotive equipment mechanic.

OPTION II

Education: Completion of 12 semester or 18 quarter units from an accredited college or university in automotive mechanics.

Experience: One and a half years in the repair and overhaul of automotive equipment performed under the supervision of a journey level automotive equipment mechanic.

OPTION III

Education: Completion of 144 hours of automotive mechanics instruction from a union training center, adult school, vocational school, or specialized industrial program.

Experience: One and a half years in the repair and overhaul of automotive equipment performed under the supervision of a journey level automotive equipment mechanic.

Other Requirements

License: Possession of a valid Class C or higher California Driver's License.
