Design Engineer 2
Key Responsibilities
Product Design & Sustaining Engineering
* Independently support sustaining engineering activities for existing products to ensure continued performance, quality, reliability, and manufacturability.
* Lead design updates, product improvements, and cost reduction initiatives in support of operations and field performance.
* Create, review, and approve 3D models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings in accordance with company standards.
* Generate and maintain engineering documentation, including BOMs, DCNs/DRNs, test procedures, and technical reports.
* Own engineering projects or defined subsystems from scope definition through implementation, including technical execution, documentation, and cross-functional coordination.
Testing, Analysis & Engineering Tools
* Develop, modify, and maintain LabVIEW-based test systems to support product validation and sustaining engineering efforts.
* Utilize FEA and CFD or equivalent analysis and simulation tools to support testing, troubleshooting, and engineering decisions.
* Plan and support laboratory testing involving diesel fuel, oils, and other industrial test fluids, following established safety procedures and PPE requirements.
* Write test procedures for production and new product testing
Manufacturing, Quality & Supplier Support
* Support MRB (Material Review Board) activities, including root cause analysis, disposition, and corrective action implementation
* Provide engineering support for First Article Inspections (FAI) and supplier qualification activities.
* Serve as a technical point of contact for Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers, responding to drawing interpretations, specifications, and technical inquiries.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
* Typically 3-6 years of relevant engineering experience or equivalent demonstrated capability.
* Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or similar).
* Strong understanding of GD&T, materials, and manufacturing processes.
* Ability to work independently and make sound engineering decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working within an ERP system (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Epicor, Infor).
* Experience with LabVIEW, simulation/analysis tools, or automated test environments.
* Prior experience supporting MRB, FAI, and supplier technical interactions.
* Hands-on mechanical aptitude and comfort working in laboratory and production environments.
