People Data Analyst
Overview
Hearst is building stronger, more accessible people insights to help leaders and HR teams make informed, strategic decisions.
The People Data Analyst will sit on Hearst's central People Team and partner across diverse business units to translate questions into clear reporting, scalable tools, and actionable insights.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing technical work with stakeholder support-building trust, clarifying needs, and delivering practical solutions that improve how teams use employee data.
We're especially interested in candidates who are comfortable using Generative AI thoughtfully to streamline work, prototype solutions, and improve consistency-while handling sensitive employee data with care.
How You'll Spend Your Time
* Recurring reporting & analytics (40%): Delivering monthly and ongoing reporting with strong quality controls, then redesigning and automating workflows to significantly reduce manual effort over time.
* Special projects & business support (40%): Partnering with HR and business teams on prioritized questions, analyses, and tools that improve decision-making across Hearst.
* Data Infrastructure (20%): Contributing to the build and ongoing maintenance of our reporting data infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
* Support recurring people reporting including data preparation, validation, and refresh processes.
* Partner with HR and business stakeholders across Hearst to understand questions, clarify requirements, and translate needs into effective tools and dashboards.
* Respond to prioritized stakeholder requests by producing analyses, visuals, and summaries that are accurate, clear, and decision-useful.
* Use technology-including responsible use of Generative AI tools where appropriate-to reduce manual work, improve consistency, and increase speed while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
* Design and maintain reporting tools that make it easier for teams to uncover trends and insights about the workforce.
* Contribute to the employee data warehouse by helping create reporting-ready datasets, supporting documentation/definitions, and partnering on data quality checks.
Qualifications
Required
* Coursework and/or professional experience in analytics, data, or a related field.
* Strong Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, data cleaning, Power Query).
* Demonstrated learning mindset - curious, proactive, and eager to build new skills; comfortable experimenting, iterating, and applying new approaches (including Generative AI) to improve h...
