TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE: American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid; knowledge of departmental rules concerning the area in which assigned; and of Lifeguard philosophies, policies and procedures; teaching methods and techniques.
SKILL: Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.
ABILITY: Prevent accidents; deal tactfully with the public, sufficient strength to make rescues; stand for extended time periods; work in loud, stressful environment; remain calm in emergency situations.
TRAINING: American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard and First Aid, and CPR/AED required.
EXPERIENCE: Previous aquatics experience, pool maintenance and swim instruction preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:


* Continuously scan pools for patrons in distress.


* Enforce all rules and policies, clean and maintain facility.


* Perform rescues and administer First Aid according to standards as needed.


* Respond quickly to emergencies.


* Provide excellent customer service.


* Act as problem solver.


* Enforce all City policies, pool rules, and regulations involving the operation of the pool.


* Set a good example for all aquatic employees in conduct, dress and manners.


* Conduct routine safety checks of equipment and staff.


* Ensure all paperwork, i.e., course records, accident reports, etc., are completed accurately and in a timely manner.


* Attend and participate in scheduled meetings and bi-monthly in-service trainings as required.
