Job Summary
Performs a variety of engineering duties of substantial difficulty in the preliminary engineering and environmental (Phase I) area of specialization.
Apply engineering principles and practices with a minimum of technical supervision.
Conducts and supervises the necessary engineering calculations and preparation of plans, specifications, estimates, studies, and reports associated with preliminary engineering and environmental (Phase I) studies prepared for major transportation improvements.
Serves as a project team representative at public information meetings and/or coordination meetings with municipalities, agencies, or other stakeholders for Phase I transportation projects.
Assumes primary responsibility over multiple projects.
Plans and directs the activities of professional and support staff.
Minimum Qualifications
* Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
A valid Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Illinois is required.
* Six (6) years' work experience in design or engineering studies related to transportation infrastructure is required.
* Within these minimum six (6) years' experience, a minimum three (3) years of work experience in active preparation and/or managing preliminary engineering and environmental (Phase I) studies with experience in at least three (3) of the following four (4) categories, is required:
(A) Designation as a Project Manager, Project Coordinator, or Project Engineer for a minimum of at least three (3) Phase I studies processed through IDOT or a different state DOT.
(B) Preparation and/or review of Phase I Project Development Reports and/or Combined Design Reports prepared to IDOT (or a different state DOT) standards,
(C) Preparation and/or review of preliminary (30%) engineering drawings for transportation projects..
(D) Serving as a project team representative at public information meetings and/or coordinationmeetings with municipalities, agencies, or other stakeholders for Phase I transportation projects.
* Possession of a valid driver's license is required.
This position is considered a safety-sensitive position.
