Research and Development Intern

Hoffmaster is seeking a motivated R&D Intern to support hands-on product testing, data analysis, and competitive research within our Research & Development team.

This internship offers meaningful, real-world experience in material testing, lab operations, and product performance analysis, with direct exposure to engineers and technical leaders.

This role is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Packaging Science, or a related technical field who are eager to apply classroom learning in a lab-based environment.
What You'll Do

As an R&D Intern, you will support key projects focused on building in-house testing capabilities and accelerating competitive insights.

Responsibilities include:


* Support the development of in-house chemical testing protocols for new materials using simplified testing methods, under the guidance of R&D Engineers, EHS, and the Lab Supervisor


* Create and document product strength testing protocols for formed paperboard products


* Build and maintain a database of internal and competitive product test data, analyzing results and identifying trends and patterns


* Acquire, test, organize, and log competitive product samples, and present relevant findings to the R&D team


* Assist with general lab operations and serve as a backup to Lab Technicians as needed

What We're Looking For


* Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Packaging Science, or a related field


* Interest in lab testing, data analysis, and product development


* Strong attention to detail and ability to document processes clearly


* Comfortable working with data (Excel or similar tools preferred)


* Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams


* Willingness to follow safety procedures and lab protocols
