Surgical Technician III
Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital seeks a CVOR Surgical Tech for their Surgery department responsible for in addition to the Surgical Tech III duties, the CVOR Surgical Tech is responsible for f ast-paced CVOR environment within our hospital.
Provides direct technical assistance to the cardiothoracic surgical team during open-heart, vascular, and thoracic procedures, including complex endovascular interventions, ensuring a sterile environment and optimized patient safety and outcomes.
* Requires flexibility for shift work (e.g., 10-hour shifts) and mandatory on-call duties with 15 response times.
Prepares the operating room (OR) for heart/vascular procedures, sets up sterile instruments, assists the surgeon by anticipating needs, manages instruments/sponges/sharps counts, handles specimens, and supports the patient pre/intra/post-op, focusing on both open-heart (Aortic Bypass, Valve Repair) and endovascular (EVAR, TAVR) cases, requiring CST certification, BLS, and often specific experience with advanced cardiac/vascular equipment and on-call availability
This position promotes the team effort toward excellence in patient care and efficiency by assisting and anticipating peri-operative patient care needs, seeking information from appropriate sources when applicable, gathering equipment and supplies, demonstrating knowledge of sterilization techniques, as well as the proper care and handling of specialty equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
* Minimum: Graduation from certified surgical technician program, completion of a comparable military program, or one year's experience performing similar duties.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
* Minimum: American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS).
2+ years experience in CV and Endovascular surgery.
* Preferred: Certified Surgical Technician.
Technical Requirements:
* Minimum: Knowledge of anatomy and physiology; identify the structure and functions of body parts.
Recognize common disorder of the body.
Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology.
Years of Related Work Experience:
* Minimum: One year of scrub tech experience or CST acquired and ability to perform independently in all service lines.
* Preferred: Minimum of one year at Cottage Health Systems in Surgical Services or two years in a clinical setting performing similar duties.
