R&D Process Engineer

Georgia Pacific is seeking a R&D Process Engineer to join the Packaging Research & Development Team.

This role is primary located at our Packaging and Cellulose Innovation Institute in Norcross, GA with travel to support our manufacturing sites.

The R&D Process Engineer will support innovation initiatives focused on providing sustainable fiber-based alternatives.

Typical work schedule would be weekdays from 8am-5pm.

What You Will Do


* Lead process improvement initiatives to increase OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), reduce waste, and lower costs


* Design, test, and scale new pilot equipment


* Communicate, ideas, concepts, data and recommendations clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences


* Translate learnings and technology upgrades into actionable insights, and share findings to multiple sites and commercial teams


* Moderate meetings and collaborating with cross functional teams


* Develop and execute experiments to troubleshoot issues and validate process changes


* Support the installation and commissioning of new converting equipment and develop subject matter expertise (SME) on those systems

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)


* Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering


* Three (3) or more years' engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment


* Experience with equipment design, installation, and/or commissioning


* Experience with data analysis and/or statistical software (i.e.

JMP, SAS)


* Experience leading or contributing to process improvement initiatives


* Willing and able to travel up to 50% to support site initiatives as business needs permit

What Will Put You Ahead


* Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering


* Background in paper mills, corrugated, and/or converting manufacturing facilities


* Experience developing and executing experiments and monitoring process data


* Experience leading process, product, or equipment changes using structured risk assessment, mitigation, and follow-up


* DMAIC/Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification
