The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is seeking a media relations specialist to coordinate and support the Bank’s engagement with the news media and other external audiences, and work as part of a team across four offices to identify opportunities to promote the Bank and its impact across its seven-state region and nationally.
This position is within the Bank’s Public Affairs, Outreach and Communications Division and reports to the assistant vice president/Public Information Officer.



* Manages media relations activities and strategies for the organization and key leaders


* Develops proactive media strategy and approaches and pitches bank research and other work to the news media


* Develops press releases, media toolkits and other content


* Seizes on timely opportunities to promote Bank content with both traditional and new media platforms


* Builds relationships with local, national, and trade media


* Serves as point of contact for members of the news media


* Involved in crisis communication responses, develops crisis communication materials and preparation documents.


* Develops and executes key public relations campaigns for the Bank, including influencer and thought leader marketing efforts


* Builds relationships with key internal leaders to promote thought leadership


* Supports the Bank’s speakers program and identifies appropriate speaking opportunities for senior leaders


* Writes content for Bank leaders and provides media coaching for executives and other Bank subject matter experts


* Collaborates to public and community outreach efforts


* Uses software tools to track and monitor Bank media mentions


* Takes on special projects that are often highly visible and sensitive in nature.


* Engages with Federal Reserve System colleagues to develop strategies to address common media relations issues.


* Familiar with AI tools, specifically within media monitoring software.

Qualifications


* Six to 10-plus years of relevant experience


* Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a closely related field from an accredited college or university


* Excellent verbal and written communication and editing skills


* Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects and meet deadlines


* Demonstrated ability to develop strategic communication and media engagement plans


* Experience in a corporate communications or media relations environment


* Ability to use media tracking tools and use information from metrics reports to make content recommendations


* Demonstrated ability to effectively represent a mission-driven organization in public settings.


* Proficient at translating complex topics for a general audience


* Ability to interact effectively with colleagues and leaders throughout a complex organization
