Data Science Intern
Join us as a Data Science Intern and work on real-world medical data science use cases with a strong focus on computer vision.
In this full-time, six-month internship, you'll gain hands-on experience with tools like YOLOv8 and Azure while contributing to projects involving image preprocessing, model training, and evaluation.
You'll collaborate with data scientists and clinical experts to help build and refine AI-driven imaging models.
If you're passionate about Python, deep learning, and solving meaningful problems, we encourage you to explore this opportunity.
Position Summary
This individual will participate in a full-time internship program, working 35-40 hours per week for a period of approximately six months.
The intern will engage in data science projects with a focus on computer vision.
They will gain exposure to real-world medical data science use cases, utilize cutting-edge AI computer vision technologies such as Yolov8, and have an opportunity to work in a cloud-based Azure environment.
Projects may include data preprocessing, model training, evaluation, deployment, data visualization, and other assigned tasks.
Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities
The intern may be assigned a wide variety of tasks depending on department workload and priorities, as well as the individual’s strengths, skillset, and background.
Tasks may vary from routine work to complex, multi-step projects.
Specific responsibilities include:
• Solving real-world dental imaging and X-ray analysis challenges using advanced computer vision and AI technologies
• Owning and contributing to the full computer vision pipeline for dental X-ray analysis, including image extraction, preprocessing, normalization, and classification
• Designing, training, evaluating, and deploying deep learning models for object detection, instance segmentation, and keypoint detection (e.g., YOLOv8-based models)
• Performing tooth detection, segmentation, tooth number attribution, and anatomical landmark detection
• Converting pixel-level model outputs into real-world clinical measurements (e.g., bone loss in millimeters)
• Building scalable inference pipelines, model orchestration workflows, and visualization/QA tooling
• Managing and supporting data labeling workflows, including defining label schemas, QA processes, and gold-standard datasets
• Collaborating closely with dental subject matter experts, hygienists, and technical team members to ensure clinical relevance and project success
• Visualizing data, model outputs, and results and presenting findings to technical and business stakeholders
Qualifications
• Pursuing or completed bachelor’s degree from an accredited college required; degrees in computer science, data science, engineering, mathematics, or related fields preferred
• Experience in Python and PyTorch or other modern deep learning frameworks
• Strong experience with computer vision techniques, including image classification, i...
