Proof Lab Assistant

Job Description

The ProoFLab Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of the Prototyping & Fabrication Lab (ProoFLab).

The role involves managing the 3D printing queue, maintaining equipment readiness, and helping users safely and effectively operate 3D printers and related manufacturing tools.

The assistant must be physically present in the lab during assigned shifts.

This position is ideal for students who enjoy hands‑on technical work, problem-solving, and interacting with a community of makers, designers, and engineers.


* Staff the lab during scheduled hours and ensure that the facility is open, safe, and functional for student and faculty use.


* Monitor the workspace to ensure users follow safety and operational guidelines.


* Perform daily startup/shutdown routines for lab equipment.


* Assist with inventory of materials (filaments, resins, tools, consumables).



* Manage the 3D print queue, including job intake, slicing, printer assignment, tracking, and completion.


* Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain 3D printers (FDM, SLA) and related peripherals.


* Perform routine maintenance, including bed leveling, nozzle replacement, calibration, resin handling, and cleaning.


* Communicate with users about print readiness, issues, timelines, and job failures.



* Assist users with file preparation, printer selection, material choices, and print setup.


* Guide new users through basic 3D printing workflows and lab policies.


* Provide support for other manufacturing processes (e.g., laser cutting, CNC, hand tools) as required.

Masters students are preferred.
