Occupational Therapist
Description
The Occupational Therapist provides therapeutic services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to improve their ability to perform daily living and work-related tasks.
This role involves assessment, treatment planning, implementation of therapy programs, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to support individual goals.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct assessments to evaluate individuals' functional abilities and therapy needs.
* Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
* Provide direct occupational therapy services to individuals.
* Monitor progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
* Document therapy sessions and maintain accurate records.
* Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support holistic care.
* Educate individuals, families, and staff on therapy techniques and goals.
* Ensure compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
Qualifications
* Master's degree or higher in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
* Current Alabama Occupational Therapy License in good standing.
* Experience in Early Intervention preferred, or experience working with children with developmental delays or disabilities.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
* Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license; must be insurable by the agency's insurance.
* Ability to pass pre-employment screening.
Skills & Competencies
* Strong knowledge of child development, sensory processing, and family-centered intervention practices.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to coach caregivers and work with families from diverse backgrounds.
* Ability to work independently and manage a field-based caseload.
* Proficiency with electronic documentation and scheduling tools.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Working Conditions
* Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and interacting physically with young children.
* Ability to sit on the floor, lift up to 25 pounds, and transition between floor and standing positions.
* Requires travel within the service area for home and community visits.
* Regular exposure to a variety of home environments.
* Vision capabilities including close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
* Occasional exposure to outdoor environments during community-based services.
