Wellness Office Nurse

Description

The Wellness Office Nurse is responsible for ensuring safe and accurate administration of medications and proper delegation of nursing tasks to unlicensed staff in accordance with the Alabama Department of Mental Health (ADMH) and Alabama Board of Nursing (ABN) guidelines.

This role involves supervising MAC workers, maintaining medical records, conducting assessments, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to support the health and well-being of individuals served.
Key Responsibilities


* Supervise MAC workers and assess their performance.


* Review, update, and maintain medical records and documentation.


* Collaborate with healthcare professionals and pharmacies to ensure prescribed orders are followed.


* Communicate with staff, team members, and natural supports regarding healthcare needs.


* Reconcile medications monthly and as needed.


* Complete new admission paperwork, hospital follow-ups, and discharges.


* Review Therap Health Tracking and conduct medication audits.


* Train MAC workers and conduct MAC Training sessions.


* Administer medications per prescriptions, standing orders, or verbal orders.


* Complete Annual Nursing Assessments, Self-Medication Assessments, Choking Risk, AIMS, Fall Assessments, Focal and Comprehensive Assessments.


* Administer injectable medications and perform sterile procedures.


* Monitor and assess wounds, perform dressing changes, and remove staples/sutures.


* Develop and implement plans of care for individuals served.


* Attend in-service education programs and staff meetings.


* Perform other duties as assigned to maintain compliance with ADMH, ABN, or Arc policy.

Requirements

Qualifications


* Unencumbered RN license by the Alabama Board of Nursing


* Completion of ABN-approved MAS Nurse training in ADMH Community


* Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited program.


* Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) is required.


* Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience, preferably in community health, behavioral health, long-term care, or a similar setting.


* CPR certification


* CPI training

Skills & Competencies


* Proficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR) software, Therap Health Tracking, and pharmacy systems.


* Ability to use medical equipment including blood pressure cuffs, thermometers, syringes, needles, and stethoscopes.


* Strong organizational and time-management skills.


* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


* Ability to work independently and collaboratively.


* Attention to detail and adherence to protocols.

Working Conditions


* May require protective gloves, masks, scrubs, lab coats, or other protective medical attire.
