Licensed Vocational Nurse II - Behavioral Health - Banning

The Riverside University Health System (RUHS) - Behavioral Health Department is seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse II to join the Diversion Program team in Banning.

Under supervision and direction of a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or physician, performs nursing duties within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing in the care of patients in the Department of Mental Health or Public Health Ambulatory Family Health Center; and perform other related duties as required.

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is not an independent practitioner.

Incumbents assigned to the LVN II class have one to three years of experience working as an LVN.

This is the full journey level class for LVNs working in non-acute care assignments with the Department of Mental Health or Public Health Ambulatory Care.

Incumbents assigned to this class perform the full range of professional nursing duties within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing with a minimum of supervision and periodic in-service training.

LVN II incumbents may compete for promotion to LVN III at the end of four years of experience and demonstrate proficiency in independent practice as an LVN within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing.

The LVN II is distinguished from the class of Nursing Assistant, Health Services Assistant, or Certified Medical Assistant, in that a state license is required of incumbents and they perform a more highly skilled form of patient care.

Position Overview:
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) will support the jail-based competency prevention program by providing clinical care and monitoring to stabilize and assist mentally ill clients in custody.

Key Responsibilities:


* Monitor clients' physical and mental health status within the jail setting.


* Administer prescribed medications, including injectables as authorized.


* Document clinical observations and changes in condition to support treatment planning.


* Collaborate with RNs, mental health clinicians, and custody staff to ensure coordinated care.


* Communicate client treatment adherence, behavioral changes, and medical needs to the care team.


* Assist with psychoeducation and medication-compliance interventions.


* Participate in crisis prevention activities to support client stability.


* Promote continuity of care to help clients meaningfully engage in their legal process.

Preferred Experience:


* Experience working in locked facilities or custody environments.


* Experience administering IMO or other injectable medications.

Additional Requirements:


* A valid California Driver's License is required; must be willing and able to drive throughout Riverside County.
