Job Summary 

This position reports to the Substation Manager and is responsible for leading the Substation Crew (Substation Relay Technician, Senior Substation Technician, Substation Master Technician, Substation Technician II, and Substation Technician I) during operation, testing, maintenance, and commissioning of substation apparatus including interrupting devices, isolating devices, power transformers, voltage regulators, and protection relays.

 The Substation Working Foreman must be able to perform the duties of a Substation Master Technician while paying strict attention to the overall job being performed.

The Substation Working Foreman is responsible for maintaining safe working habits and conditions on the work site.

 Procedures are applied to determine the best course of action within the limits of standard practice.

 A CDOT unrestricted Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with class A designation is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 


* Requires Substation Crews follow CORE safety standards and procedures at all times.


* Plans and directs the daily work activities of employees assigned to them.


* Verifies all department vehicles, equipment, and tools are maintained in good, safe working order.


* Determines and selects the proper materials and tools required on the job site.


* Conducts Job Briefings on the worksite daily and any time scope or method of work changes.


* Informs Substation Manager of daily work progress and problems encountered.


* Assists in the training of Substation Technician I (Apprentice).


* Performs testing, maintenance, and commissioning of substation equipment/relaying involving routine inspection, repair, and modification or addition as needed.
+ In addition, provides guidance and direction to Substation Crews performing this work.

Reviews and signs off on crew work.
o Reviews test documentation and provides to the Substation Manager.


* Performs switching on substation and transmission line equipment.


* Interprets electrical prints including one-line, three-line, schematic, and wiring diagram drawings for testing, troubleshooting, and modification purposes.


* Performs routine maintenance, minor repairs, and adjustments of high voltage circuit breakers, disconnect switches, power transformers, voltage regulators, reclosers, and switchgear breakers.
