Executive Director

Expecting Justice (EJ) is seeking an Executive Director to lead the complex work of advancing health equity through systems change.

Taking an innovative, policy-focused approach, Expecting Justice is working to reduce the astonishing disparities in birth outcomes across California and beyond.

The Abundant Birth Project (ABP) is a program of Expecting Justice that provides birth-givers with a monthly income supplement during their pregnancy and post-natal periods.

We are seeking a dedicated, creative, and strategic leader to join our team and help us build a future where every parent can expect a joyful birth and every newborn can expect safe passage into the world.  

This is a temporary, grant-funded, full-time, benefitted position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Executive Director will help oversee all aspects of the operations of Expecting Justice and the Abundant Birth Project.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

Leadership, Management, and Oversight


* Leads, motivates, and supports staff, provides direct supervision to senior staff


* Provides financial oversight and guidance


* Ensures adherence to the program’s mission and values 


* Oversees the legal strategy for the program


* Reviews and approves any changes to organizational policy or practice


* Ensures the overall effectiveness of EJ and ABP 

Vision and Strategy


* Provides strategy, vision, and direction for Expecting Justice and the Abundant Birth Project


* Provides creative collaboration for all EJ/ABP programs and initiatives


* Guides team in setting and monitoring annual goals


* Evaluates new and current programmatic activities for alignment, effectiveness, and sustainability

Fundraising and Resource Development


* Leads donor cultivation and stewardship


* Identifies and pursues public and private funding opportunities for organizational growth and sustainability

Communication and External Relations


* Manages relationships with high level county personnel


* Serves as the external face and primary spokesperson for the organization


* Cultivates robust partnerships and strategic alliances with community organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders


* Grows EJ and ABP’s visibility and influence as a trusted partner in birth equity


* Reviews any papers about EJ and/or ABP’s work prior to publication


* Provides direction and guidance for EJ/ABP communications


* Provide direction and guidance for EJ/ABP abstract submissions and presentations


* Maintain regular communication with Program Directors and staff, sharing key updates, decisions, and relevant information from external stakeholders to ensure organizational alignment.
