MACHINING OPERATOR

In this role you will operate and maintain a CNC machining line to perform multiple ID and OD machining functions on metal work pieces.

You will produce precision parts applying knowledge of machining procedures to meet the customer's expectations and Amsted Rail procedures and standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To accomplish this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following essential functions satisfactorily:


* Adhere to plant-wide safety, ergonomics and environmental requirements, defined by Amsted Rail; outlined by the Amsted Rail Health & Safety program.


* Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures on machines, using hand tools and gauges.


* Remove and replace worn or broken cutting tools. 


* Verify alignment using measurement instructions.


* Select program into machine control units to start operation.


* Adjust tooling monitoring systems, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty, if machines malfunction or parts fall out of conformance.


* Perform machine set-ups using knowledge of job requirements and materials used to enter control panel settings for tool travel, axis movement and tool speeds.


* Setup robots and transfer conveyors and loading/unloading devices and equipment for proper operation.


* Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring equipment and gauges.


* Tag and segregate non-conforming parts, in accordance with quality standards.


* Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.


* Operate a forklift to stage and move work bins to internal customers. 


* Lift work pieces to load work pieces manually or with hoists or cranes.


* Record production run information in the company computer system. 


* Understand operational sequences and dimensions of finished work pieces. 


* Perform preventative maintenance tasks, as assigned by supervisors. 


* Clean, maintain and store tooling and equipment, in accordance with good practices established by Amsted Rail.


* Maintain strong communications with operators and supervisors.


* Troubleshoot part compliance and equipment problems, enlisting the assistance of the Machining Specialist, Supervisor or Maintenance as needed.


* Work with minimal supervision and consistently produces repeat parts and new first run parts, accurately within specifications. 


* Perform basic housekeeping to keep area clean and safe, including the monitoring of scrap containers


* Perform daily 6S duties.


* Perform other duties, as assigned
