Department:
Respiratory Care
Works under supervision of the Respiratory Care Manager to coordinate quality patient services by providing operational/clinical supervision of departmental staff, to include but not limited to, staffing, work assignments, conflict resolutions.
May perform therapeutic/diagnostic procedures in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures.
Facilitates guides and supports Respiratory Care staff in the delivery of safe and effective patient care.
Maintains continuity of departmental functions in absence of Respiratory Care Manager.
* Oversees departmental activities of a shift on a daily basis to ensure compliance with department and hospital policies.
* Coordinates quality patient care services by providing clinical/operational management during the shift(s) to include departmental staffing, assignments and conflict resolutions.
* Maintains continuity of departmental services by utilizing positive communication to staff, Respiratory Care Manager and other hospital personnel and by providing departmental guidance during absence of Respiratory Care Manager.
* Participates in performance appraisals, discipline and interviewing process.
* Assists in staff development by participating/coordinating in departmental orientation/ competencies and maintaining appropriate staff records.
* Promotes improved quality of patient care by relating any identified staff or clinical issues to Respiratory Care Manager and by participating in development, implementation of departmental standards, policies and procedures, competencies, quality improvement process, new programs and projects.
* May perform Respiratory Care therapy as prescribed by a physician and in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Responds to all Code Blues.
* Contributes to cost effective patient care by monitoring use of time, equipment and supplies.
* Attends all necessary meetings, to include staff meetings, meetings with physicians, Respiratory Care Manager, departmental in services and all other meetings as deemed necessary.
* Acts as resource and role model by providing direction, guidance and technical assistance to staff.
* Complies with safety policies and procedures in order to provide a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors.
* Demonstrates necessary flexibility in regard to changes in hospital or department activities.
* Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients.
* Assesses/evaluates the learning needs of Respiratory Care staff and develops an educational plan to meet these needs, to include orientation program for registry staff and new employees, continuing education programs and educational offerings as appropriate based upon ...
