Senior Fiber Optic Engineer
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
* Equipment, instruments, and various optical alignment tooling and fixture selections.
* Equipment, instrument installation, calibration, maintenance and repair.
* Analyze complex optical alignment processes, search for solutions in the public domain as well as create/develop innovative solutions.
* Design and implement fiber optical alignment tooling and fixture.
* Keep up with the latest fiber optic testing and packaging technologies.
Education & Experience
* Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
Must have a strong background in engineering science.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in fiber optical components, devices and sub-system manufacturing.
Skills & Other Requirements
* Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
* Strong project management skills, with ability to prioritize and execute multiple initiatives.
* Work independently in mechanical design with SolidWorks and other software.
* Ability to search, locate and work proactively with external resources to ensure that projects proceed as planned.
* Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams.
* Proficient in connector surface cleaning and inspection processes.
Familiar with various connector end-face cleaning tools and testing instruments.
* Proficient in using Laser source, Optical power meters, OSA, OTDR, Scramblers, and other common fiber optic instruments.
* Familiarity with clean room protocols, ESD protection, and contamination control.
* Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Working Conditions
* This position is onsite.
* Work performed in clean rooms and laboratory-controlled environments, wearing smock with mask and gloves.
* Regular use of a computer and other office equipment is necessary.
* Interaction with team members and external contacts is a regular part of the job.
* May require occasional overtime and flexibility in work hours to accommodate the executive's needs.
Physical Requirements
* Sitting for extended periods while working on a computer or conducting meetings.
* Occasional lifting of objects or materials up to 25 pounds for administrative tasks.
* Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
