Surveying Technician I/II

The level at which the position will be filled is at the Department's discretion and contingent on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

The County of Riverside's Flood Control Department has multiple opportunities for an Surveying Technician I/II who will be assigned to either the Surveying Section or Right of Way Engineering (ROWE) Section within the Survey & Mapping Division in Riverside.

The Surveying Technician I/II performs a variety of sub-professional land surveying and right-of-way engineering duties under the direction of a Senior Land Surveyor or Survey Project Manager.

They will utilize Autodesk Software to assist in preparing various Right of Way documents, perform field data collection, including construction staking, boundary, and topographic surveys.

This position follows a 4/10 schedule, Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 a.m.

to 4:30 p.m.

Candidates will have experience in land surveying, construction staking, boundary and topographic surveys, along with significant proficiency using complex software applications, preferably Autodesk, Trimble Business Center, Bluebeam, and Microsoft 365.

Certification as a Land Surveyor-in-Training (LSIT), an Autodesk certification, or an equivalent drafting credential is highly desired.

This position is classified as Engineering Technician I/II in the County's classification system.

Meet the Team!

The Riverside County Flood Control and Water Conservation District provides for the control and conservation of flood and storm waters and for the protection of watercourses, watersheds, public highways, life and property from damage within its boundaries.If Assigned to the Survey Section:


* Perform field data collection, including construction staking, boundary, and topographic surveys.


* Demonstrate proficiency in field measurement procedures, instrument setup, and data collector management.


* Apply calculation methods for curves, coordinates, and elevations; prepare simple field notes.


* Utilize software such as Trimble Business Center, Bluebeam, and Microsoft 365 to process and document survey data.


* Work in outdoor environments with varying terrain and weather conditions.


* Ensure the survey truck is fully stocked and equipment is in order.

If Assigned to the Right of Way Engineering Section:


* Learn and apply boundary establishment and boundary resolution methods for base mapping and right of way mapping.


* Understand and assist in preparation or review of Legal Descriptions, Plat Maps, Records of Survey, and Corner Records.


* Conduct research of land records, title reports, and easement documents in support of right of way and mapping projects.


* Use Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley, or similar CAD tools to draft and annotate right of way exhibits and mapping documents.


* Demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and understanding of survey law and title implications.
