Operations and Maintenance Supervisor

The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County.

A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.

The Riverside County Department of Waste Resources has multiple openings for Operations and Maintenance Supervisors.

Selected candidates will be assigned to either the Badlands Landfill in Moreno Valley or the Lamb Canyon Landfill in Beaumont.

The Operations and Maintenance Supervisor serves in a frontline supervisory role, overseeing the daily work of Equipment Operators, Maintenance and Construction Workers, Laborer staff, and work-release participants.

The Supervisor is responsible for managing landfill operations and special projects under the direction of a project supervisor or supervising engineering staff.

Primary responsibilities include directing daily activities such as traffic direction, waste and materials recycling, tire disposal, CRT recycling and shipping, and servicing appliances to remove hazardous components.

The incumbent will coordinate staff, equipment, and materials required for daily landfill operations.

This includes directing field and equipment operation personnel, ensuring compliance with departmental policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements, and coordinating maintenance services for equipment repairs.

The Supervisor will also conduct daily walk-around inspections, perform site inspections to ensure compliance with permit conditions, and work closely with regulatory agency personnel.

Additional duties include supervising field staff, conducting performance evaluations, managing workload assignments, and preparing and submitting daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.

The Supervisor will also operate various types of heavy construction equipment as needed to support landfill operations.

Competitive candidates will have lead or supervisory experience in a solid waste facility, construction site, or recycling center, with direct involvement in daily operations such as heavy equipment operation, traffic direction, materials recycling, and appliance servicing.

Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and computer skills are essential for success in this role.

The Operations and Maintenance Supervisor is a supervisory level classification and reports to an appropriate manager level position.

Incumbents are responsible for full-time supervision of one large crew on a major project;, several smaller crews working under lead workers on construction or maintenance functions;, or crews performing maintenance or improvements of structures.

Personnel and equipment are assigned as required by project and work assigned.
