California Environmental Compliance Manager

Job Description

As the California Environmental Compliance Manager, you'll be the go-to expert for environmental regulations affecting our retail stores and, when needed, our distribution centers.

You'll lead audits, manage hazardous waste vendors, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental laws.

This role offers a unique blend of fieldwork, strategic planning, and cross-functional collaboration.

You'll be traveling frequently across California, making sure our stores are not only compliant but leading the way in environmental responsibility.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities



* Conduct formal reviews of retail stores to ensure environmental and health & safety compliance.



* Identify and prioritize corrective actions for non-compliance issues.



* Advise leadership on operational improvements to meet environmental standards.



* Prepare and maintain environmental plans, procedures, and reports.



* Coordinate inspections and audits with regulatory agencies.



* Respond to inquiries from internal teams and customers regarding environmental regulations.



* Manage hazardous waste vendors and ensure proper waste handling.



* Analyze environmental documentation from regulatory bodies and assess operational impact.



* Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Operations, and government agencies.



* Lead regional environmental projects and initiatives.



* Supervise direct reports and support their development.

Qualifications

What We Are Looking For



* 7-10 years of experience in environmental management, consulting, or regulatory compliance.



* Proven success managing environmental compliance programs.



* Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.



* Ability to travel frequently across California.



* Must pass a pre-employment background and MVR check.

* Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science , Engineering, Earth Science, or a related field.



* Experience working in retail or distribution environments.



* Familiarity with California-specific environmental regulations.



* Strong project management skills and experience leading cross-functional initiatives.



* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.



* A proactive mindset and passion for sustainability.
