Registered Nurse/Clinical Supervisor I, Specialized Medical Unit

Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse/Clinical Supervisor I, you'll play a vital role in leading staff in delivering safe patient care.

This role functions as a clinical expert, resource, and role model for customer service.

The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for adjusting shift schedules, facilitating patient throughput, and staff workflow to meet patient care needs.

Critical thinking, effective communication, and collaboration with patients, families, staff, and physicians are essential to achieving care goals and desired outcomes.

Education


* Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing required

Licenses and Certifications


* Current licensure with the California Board of Registered Nursing


* Must successfully complete and maintain BLS certification.


* Must successfully complete and maintain LA City Fire Card certification at the time of hire or within the first 30 days of employment


* RNC preferred in specialty area(s).


* Active involvement as a leader/participant in a hospital-wide committee or council. 

Experience


* Two (2) to five (5) years of clinical experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting relevant to the department.


* Prior charge nurse experience preferred; minimum one (1) year charge nurse experience required if hired/transferred into PACU.


* Meets CN III requirements or will meet them within 90 days of hire/appointment.


* Effective communication skills, including speaking, enunciating, and writing.

Specific Responsibilities:


* Patient Care Facilitation:



* Demonstrates advocacy for the patient/customer and acknowledges patients, customers, and visitors appropriately.


* Follows and serves as a resource for policies, procedures, and standards of care.


* Participates in hospital-wide committees and councils for two-way information sharing.


* Implements and monitors evidence-based practice strategies for patient care improvement.


* Promotes a positive environment to facilitate the optimal patient experience.


* Serves as a patient experience champion by rounding on all patients and their families, ensuring care boards reflect the patient's plan of care, and addressing concerns/complaints timely.

Clinical Mentorship:


* Acts as a clinical resource by providing routine assistance/support at the bedside and in emergencies.


* Facilitates conflict resolution promptly.


* Follows the chain of command in addressing emergencies.


* Serves as a mentor and resource, assisting new staff with clinical orientation.

Shift Supervision:


* Assists with scheduling, and balancing staff experience and competency for cost-effective assignments.


* Ensures the availability of supplies and equipment for current and upcoming shifts.


* Utilizes SBAR for hand-off reports during shift changes.


* Communicates important problems/issues to the manager/director/operations supervisor.
