Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Painter Foreman, prepares surfaces for painting by filling holes, scraping scale, and washing woodwork and walls.

Prepares new drywall for painting.

Sets up ladders and scaffolding, and lays drop cloths on the floor and furniture.

Brushes, rolls or spray paints wood, plaster and metal surfaces of buildings (interior and exterior), barricades, pipes, radiators, vents, fire escapes, metal partitions, etc.

Mixes and blends paints.

Cleans and maintains equipment and brushes.

Strips and refinishes office furniture and woodwork.

Measures and hangs wall coverings.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


* Successful completion of an approved and recognized apprenticeship program and attainment of Journeyman status as a Painter is required.

OR



* Five (5) years of full-time work experience as a Painter is required.

AND


* Successful completion of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 30-hour course in Construction, Safety and Health is required.


* Successful completion of the Occupational Safety Health Act (OSHA) Compliant Aerial Work Platform Training Course is required.

Preferred Qualifications
Current and valid City of Chicago Scaffolding Card is preferred.

This position is considered a safety-sensitive position.

Candidates who are selected to fill safety-sensitive positions must pass a required drug test as part of the pre-employment background check process.

* Thorough and extensive knowledge in the principles, methods, and technologies of painting.


* Knowledge of the different types of paints, brushes, rollers, etc...
