Eligibility Specialist 2 - Lucas County Job & Family Services

JOB SUMMARY:

We're seeking a detail-oriented professional to serve as an Eligibility Specialist 2 focused on determining and maintaining public assistance for clients.

This role is primarily responsible for conducting all intake and redetermination processes, which includes interviewing assistance groups primarily over the phone, or in-office as needed, to gather and verify information and calculate eligibility.

You will be the primary point of contact for clients, requiring you to initiate and maintain effective communication, answer inquiries, respond to case changes, and send necessary follow-up correspondence.

Critical duties include tracking client income and resources, demonstrating the ability to calculate budgets and over/under payments, conducting pre-termination procedures before case closure, and initiating investigative referrals when appropriate.

Additionally, you will be responsible for clearly explaining eligibility factors, benefit amounts, and client rights and responsibilities.

The successful candidate must utilize a strong working knowledge of agency policies, regulations, and community resources.

Performs other related duties as required.

 Eligibility Specialists undergo a comprehensive 14-week training program to learn the programs, policies, and procedures needed to be successful in this position. 

Anticipated Start Date: February 2026
