PARK RANGER I/II
The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County.
A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.
This recruitment is open to all applicants.
Applicants who are current County of Riverside employees and/or current employees of Riverside's Regional Parks and Open District may be considered before other applicants depending on the volume of applications received.
The County of Riverside's Habitat and Open-Space Management District seeks to fill one Park Ranger I/II vacancy to support the Hidden Valley Wildlife Area located in Riverside.
The successful candidate will support the Hidden Valley Wildlife Area and the Santa Ana River bottom locations.
Competitive candidates will possess relevant experience in open-space reserves, forestry, parks, military, law enforcement, or fire services.
A valid California Class A commercial driver license is highly desired.
General knowledge of basic maintenance and groundskeeping is also beneficial.
The Park Ranger is responsible for a variety of duties related to the daily operations, safety, and maintenance of County parks.
Park Rangers play a vital role in providing excellent customer service, supporting fee collection and campground registration, engaging with visitors and community members, including the unhoused, enforcing rules and regulations, assisting with challenging situations, and resolving visitor issues.
This position also requires conducting both vehicle and foot patrols.
Familiarity with gas power tools such chainsaws, weed trimmers, and mowers as well as platforms such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, Point of Sale systems, ArcGIS, and other relevant software.
This role is designed to provide a strong foundation in park operations, with the goal of developing into a more independent and experienced ranger over time.
The level at which the position will be filled is at the Department's discretion and contingent on the candidate's experience and qualifications.
Incumbents are expected to progress to the Park Ranger II level upon meeting the minimum qualifications for the higher level and satisfactory job performance.
This position follows a 5/40 schedule, 8:00am to 4:30pm with Monday's and Tuesday's off.
