Sr. Merch Analyst

Job Description

SUMMARY:

AutoZone's Senior Merchandising Analysts are internal consultants for the merchandising department.

They provide the data for the line review process.

They track promotions, contest, and team objectives.

They monitor all of the team categories making sure objectives are met.

They provide a statistical and financial foundation for merchandising decisions.

They are responsible for programming in SAS to automate team reporting.

Senior Analysts are viewed as a department resource by senior management, as well as an expert for understanding and application of AutoZone data.

Must advise and mentor merchandising analysts.

Must be open to change, support new initiatives and take the role of innovative leader developing department level solutions and ideas.

Must be the team resource for market segmentation, positioning, and customer target data.

Responsibilities



* Develop and present opportunities to increase profitability and/or sales through pricing initiatives.


* Regularly consult with category managers (CMs) on business needs and make pricing recommendations to

support objectives.


* Analyze data in price optimization software and develop scenarios to recommend every day and price test

recommendations.


* Apply data-driven analytics to evaluate the marketplace and competitive data to optimally align pricing

strategies within the chain and store-specific zones.


* Monitor and evaluate the day-to-day pricing activities across multiple merchandise categories; develop

tools/reports to communicate pricing trends.


* Measure success of pricing change activity to ensure the team meets company expectations while

maintaining stated and approved pricing philosophies.


* Assume a leadership role for broader departmental responsibilities and projects.


* Support and mentor other team members.


* Solve problems through data analysis and reporting.


* Review and establish best practices for the team.

Supervisory Responsibilities:


* Set objectives and long-range goals.


* Identify team performance standards.


* Provide coaching and feedback to build an effective team.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) or equivalent in Business Administrations, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or comparable field

Three to five years of experience preferred in Business Administrations, Price Optimization, Statistics, Engineering, or Merchandising related responsibilities •

Knowledge of and interest in activity-based costing, factor analysis, microeconomics, statistical process control, business process analysis, continuous improvement, and business modeling using such techniques as linear regression, experiments, and time series forecasting

Understanding of database structures; query writing skills a plus

Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills and the ability to work with/contribute to a team
