Data Engineer
Location: Oak Ridge, TN (100% on-site)
Salary: $35-40k/year + benefits

Ability to provide proof of US Citizenship on your first day of employment to obtain a DOE HSPD-12 Badge in accordance with the terms of the contract.

Department of Energy OSTI's policy direction requires all employees employed on this contract to be citizens of the United States.

Position Summary
This position will support the US Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) vision to ensure long-term preservation of and access to DOE scientific and technical information through the use of data engineering and machine learning (ML) tools and technologies to enhance OSTI-built web applications. 
 
Position-Specific Duties


* Performs data engineering and ML activities related to Natural Language Processing.


* Supports data engineering solutions with the design of analytical workflows with other data scientists and developers.


* Explores and models structured and unstructured datasets to generate insights and make recommendations.


* Optimizes and deploys code into analytics workflows or smart applications.


* Keeps abreast of new analytics methods to share with the wider team and apply to projects.


* Performs other duties as required.

Education, Training, Experience


* Prefer candidates to have or be working toward a bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering, artificial intelligence or machine learning, mathematics, or related field from an accredited college or university or with equivalent background.


* 0-3 years of experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (Preferred, not required)


* Experience performing data engineering and development activities supporting, maintaining, and enhancing applications.


* Experience or knowledge of machine learning.


* Experience programming in Python and with Python ML packages.


* Experience in debugging another developer’s code.


* Dedication to outstanding customer service.


* Excellent verbal and written skills.


* Ability to work collaboratively and with a team.


* Ability to work with minimal supervision.
