Clinical Coordinator - MRI

Department:
Diagnostic Imaging

Coordinates the day-to-day operation of the M.R.I Department.

Under minimal supervision, performs diagnostic Magnetic Resonance procedures as requested by a physician to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Assists with maintaining ACR accreditation for M.R.I.

Trains and serves as a resource person in handling difficult or unusual situations.

Acts as a positive role model for staff.

Works with staff and Radiologists to develop and implement M.R.I.

Department policies and protocols.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the population of the patients served on his/her unit.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Performs any combination of the following duties depending on the area of assignment.


* Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the M.R.I Department.



* Performs diagnostic M.R.I procedures such as head, chest, spine, abdomen, pelvis, etc.

Assists physicians in performing other M.R.I.

procedures such as biopsies, etc., as needed.



* Transports patients by stretcher, bed, wheelchair, or walking.

Provides care for patients during transportation and within the department, if necessary.



* Assists patients by lifting and moving them off and on the scanning table.

Provides bedpans and urinals as needed.

Assures that patients are properly dressed for their procedures.



* Correctly "screens" individuals for MRI procedures for patient safety.

Can define safety issues in MRI.



* Can access websites/resources to determine compatibility of implanted devices.



* Prepares patient for exam by consenting, explaining exam and answering patient questions.

Starts intravenous lines and administers contrast and other preparations so as to complete exam in a timely fashion.



* Cares for patient during procedures by assisting them to rest rooms, giving them blankets, etc.



* Demonstrates proficiency in the use of Patient Monitoring Systems.



* Evaluates patient condition pre and post-procedure and reports changes in the patient's condition to nurses or Radiologist for follow-up.



* Assists with emergency medical treatment under physician direction.



* Pulls contrast from medication dispenser per protocol and documents contrast in hospital information system (HIS) per protocol.

Is competent in loading power injector for contrast studies.



* Performs related duties such as reporting equipment malfunctions, assists others, and special assignments.

Cleans work area, orders and maintains the department inventory of supplies.



* Knows patient pregnancy policy for MRI.

Knows when and how to use "emergency power shut down" and "quench" buttons on all MRI equipment.



* Reviews and verifies outpatient orders for the following day.
