Temporary Park Maintenance Worker - Idllywild

The County of Riverside's Human Resources Temporary Assignment Program (TAP) is seeking a Temporary Park Maintenance Worker to provide support to the Parks Department in Idyllwild, CA .

The Park Maintenance Worker -
Parks is a first professional level classification and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position.

This classification is characterized by having as its primary function the performance of buildings and grounds maintenance duties.

Incumbents may occasionally perform public contact duties such as answering questions of park users regarding park facilities and informing users of park rules and regulations.

Position Overview for aark Maintenance Worker
Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain and repair park facilities including restrooms, picnic areas, shelters, and signage
• Perform basic carpentry, plumbing, and painting
• Clean and restock restrooms and empty trash receptacles
• Inspect and repair campsites and trails, including erosion control and drainage
• Clear debris (fallen trees, rocks) from trails and access roads
• Build and maintain footbridges, retaining walls, and trail markers
• Support conservation efforts: remove invasive plants, plant native species, assist with fire prevention and restoration
• Monitor and report hazards (e.g., flooding, erosion, widow makers)
• Remove snow and ice during winter; respond to storm damage
• Prepare infrastructure for seasonal changes (e.g., winterize pipes)
• Operate and maintain tools and equipment (chainsaws, mowers, ATVs, snow blowers)
• Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and golf carts
• Install and repair fencing, gates, barriers, and signage
• Provide directions and information to park visitors
• Report unsafe conditions or emergencies to supervisors

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with common maintenance tools, equipment, and materials
• Basic knowledge of vehicle preventive maintenance
Additional Requirement:

• Valid Class C Driver's License required at time of offer

Work Schedule: Wednesday - Sunday 8am-4:30pm (Must be available for work on holidays)

• Maintain park facilities by mowing, raking, cleaning, fertilizing, and watering park areas; maintain and improve camp and picnic areas by removing brush, weeds, and other materials; clear and maintain equestrian trails; remove dead trees and branches by using chain and hand saws; plant and maintain trees; remove trash and debris from lake and shore areas.

• Move docks on lakes when water level changes; clean, sanitize, and service restrooms and other public facilities; clean, maintain, and build picnic tables, benches, camp stoves, fire pits, and similar park facilities.

• Operate a variety of trucks and tractors in hauling trash, dirt and rocks, and in clearing and leveling park areas and roadways.
