Assistant Coach, Wrestling
Position Summary: The Assistant Coach of Wrestling supports the Head Coach in delivering a world-class wrestling program at IMG Academy.
This role assists in training student-athletes, mentoring their growth on and off the mat, and ensuring the daily operations of practices, competitions, and program activities run smoothly.
The Assistant Coach plays a key role in reinforcing the Academy’s mission of athletic and personal excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the Head Coach in planning and executing wrestling practices, drills, and training sessions.
* Provide direct coaching and instruction in technical skills, conditioning, and competition preparation.
* Mentor student-athletes in areas of academic accountability, personal development, and sportsmanship.
* Serves as primary mat-side coach for developmental and JV-level athletes.
* Assists in video review, performance analysis, and strength-conditioning integration.
* Assist with recruiting efforts, including evaluating prospective student-athletes and supporting program promotion.
* Aid in competition logistics, including scheduling, team travel, and event management.
* Monitor athlete progress, maintain training records, and communicate updates to the Head Coach and families.
* Collaborate with athletic trainers, strength staff, and academic advisors to ensure holistic athlete support.
* Uphold IMG Academy standards for compliance, safety, and conduct on and off the mat
* Represent the wrestling program professionally at competitions, events, and community activities.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sports Management, or related field (Master’s preferred).
* 2–4 years of wrestling coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or elite club level.
* Strong technical knowledge of wrestling skills, training methods, and competition strategy.
* Ability to build rapport and motivate student-athletes in a high-performance environment.
* Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
* Knowledge of NCAA rules and recruiting guidelines preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
* Ability to demonstrate wrestling techniques and participate in training activities.
* Schedule requires flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
* Must be able to lift, move, push and pull equipment or boxes in excess of 40lbs.
* Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
* Ability to move across campus facilities including gyms, fields, and turf.
