Job Summary

Under the direction of the Payroll Supervisor/Assistant Payroll Supervisor, performs payroll functions including entering, reviewing, and reconciling timesheets and associated reports.

Processes bi-weekly payroll for assigned groups, including Quarterly Judges.

Processes all accrual adjustment forms for the entire Cook County organization.

Investigates, calculates, and reviews all back pay/settlement documents sent to the Comptroller's office.

Calculates military leave pay for all active Armed Forces members.

Reconciles, balances, and transmits the bi-weekly Pension and Deferred Comp files.

Assists with investigating and resolving payroll issues.

Assists with the payroll tax reconciliation, filing and year-end processes, as well as with the maintaining of payroll policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Experience in the application of sound mathematical principles and basic bookkeeping methods relative to maintaining important financial or statistical records and preparing or approving expenditures, payrolls, purchases of considerable cost.

· Experience in ERP and Microsoft Office Suite.

· Ability to proof; verify; edit; transcribe and cross reference complex data.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced and detail-oriented environment.

· Ability to follow-up on unresolved business in a thorough and timely manner.

· Ability to make sound decisions and carry out programs affecting own work and work of others either for constant or changing work situations.

· Ability to communicate both verbally and in written formats.

· Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines under pressure.

Minimum Qualifications


* High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate AND Seven (7) years of work experience in a payroll function.

* Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree AND Five (5) years of work experience in a payroll function.

-OR-


* Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree AND Three (3) years of work experience in a payroll work function.

Preferred Qualifications


* One (1) year of work experience utilizing an ERP payroll application.

Physical Requirements

Sedentary Work

Sedentary Work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
