Engineering Technician I/II (Materials Lab)

The level at which the position will be filled is at the Department's discretion and contingent on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

The County of Riverside's Transportation Department has an opportunity for an Engineering Technician I/II who will be assigned to the Materials Lab division in Riverside.

The Engineering Technician I/II will perform field compaction testing of roadway and materials sampling of soil, asphalt and concrete; write daily diaries, letters, and other reports related to construction inspection and material testing; review plans, construction schedules, quantity estimates, specifications, and other documents for capital improvement and development projects; perform calculations related to construction inspection; perform other engineering support functions as directed and necessary for the function of the materials laboratory programs for the Riverside County Transportation Department.

The Engineering Technician I is a natural progression underfill for the Engineering Technician II.

Incumbents are eligible to promote to Engineering Technician II upon successful completion of their probationary period, which would include a satisfactory performance evaluation and any additional qualification requirements.

This position follows a 4/10 schedule, Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 a.m.

to 4:30 p.m.

Competitive candidates will have experience in field and laboratory materials testing.

Possession of a nuclear gauge certification, ACI (American Concrete Institute) certification, and Caltrans certification is highly desirable.

The Transportation Department is responsible for planning, designing, funding, building, operating and maintaining all roads, bridges, and transportation facilities within the unincorporated County territory.

MATERIALS LABORATORY:

• Perform field compaction testing of roadway and materials sampling of soil, asphalt and concrete.

• Write daily diaries, letters, and other reports related to construction inspection and material testing.

Review plans, construction schedules, quantity estimates, specifications, and other documents for capital improvement and development projects.

• Perform calculations related to construction inspection.

$53,602.96 - $84,195.70 Annually
