Senior Automotive Mehcanic

The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County.

A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies .

The County of Riverside's Waste Resources Department has an opportunity for a Senior Automotive Mechanic who will be assigned to the headquarters in Moreno Valley.

The Senior Automotive Mechanic will be tasked performing skilled repairs on gasoline fuel vehicles, including cars and light trucks for the Department's fleet.

Responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical issues, such as engine, transmission, and differential failures.

The role requires interpreting fault codes, reading schematics, and completing installations of smog devices and specialized equipment to ensure vehicle compliance and reliability.

Additionally, the Senior Automotive Mechanic will lead and train other mechanics and perform installations of smog devices and specialized equipment on vehicles.

Competitive candidates will possess a current valid Unlimited Smog License and have experience using fleet management systems and Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Excel.

Experience in a lead or supervisory role, as well as prior automotive maintenance experience in the public sector, is highly desirable.

Incumbents in this class report to the Automotive Service Supervisor and perform at an advanced journey level with lead responsibilities over lower level mechanics involved in the overhaul, repair, and maintenance of gas and alternative fuel powered vehicles.

Lead duties include assigning work and inspecting it upon completion.

It is located at the larger garage facilities in Riverside and Indio.

This class is distinguished from the next lower level class of Automotive Mechanic III by the assignment of lead duties.

It is distinguished from the Automotive Service Supervisor by the latter's responsibility for managing a major repair facility and performing full supervisory duties.

Schedule: 9/80 schedule - Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m.

to 4:30 p.m., with every other Friday off.

• Estimates time and materials needed for a variety of repair work; requisitions materials and supplies; and assists in the training of less experienced mechanics and service workers.
