About the Role

A vacancy exists for the position of Power Systems Electrician at Portland Aluminium.

Reporting to the Power Systems Supervisor, this role may be structured as a 10-hour day shift or a 12-hour rotating shift roster.

As a Power Systems Electrician at our Portland Smelter, you’ll collaborate with both internal and external teams to complete tasks safely, while ensuring they meet the required quality and service standards.

You will contribute to the reliability and efficiency of equipment and processes by installing, repairing, commissioning, and testing both low and high voltage apparatus and components.

Your work will support the maintenance, installation, and upgrading of electrical systems across buildings, equipment, and site infrastructure.

You’ll help identify opportunities for improvement, coordinate with contractors when needed, and support quality assurance processes.


* As a Power Systems Electrician, you apply your technical knowledge and skills to maintain safe and efficient operations.

Your responsibilities include: High Voltage Switching up to 500,000 Volts


* Managing High Voltage permits (issue, receipt, relinquishment, cancellation)


* Preventive and service maintenance on High and Low Voltage equipment


* Preparing work scopes and supporting project activities


* Coordinating and supporting project execution


* Performing isolations


* Managing handovers with operations teams


* Completing assigned work activities

What you can bring to the role

To play a part in our ongoing success you will:


* Hold an A Grade Electrical Licence (Australian Apprenticeship, Tradesperson’s Rights Certificate or equivalent)


* Ideally, have experience as a High Voltage Operator


* Have advanced skills and the knowledge effectively isolate, diagnose, analyse, and rectify complex equipment related problems


* Be experienced working with PLC systems  - motor control would be beneficial.
