Fire Apparatus Technician II - Throughout Riverside County

The County of Riverside Fire Department is seeking to fill multiple Fire Apparatus Technician II positions to support their Perris and Indio Stations.

Under direction, performs major and minor mechanical and electrical repairs and adjustments on heavy-duty gasoline and diesel-powered fire apparatus and related equipment under field conditions; serves as a mentor for Fire Apparatus Technician I‘s and other shop personnel in the County Fire Department Fleet Bureau; performs other related duties as required.

The most competitive candidates will possess experience performing Basic Inspection of Terminals (BIT) for specialized vehicles such as bottom dumps, end dumps and water trucks .

The Fire Apparatus Technician II is the journey level classification in the Fire Apparatus Technician series and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position.

Incumbents are assigned to maintain, diagnose malfunctions and make necessary repairs on fire apparatus and related equipment in the field, often under adverse conditions.

While on field assignment, incumbents must determine whether the equipment can be repaired in the field or must be sent to the garage for repairs.

Incumbents undergo the process of meeting the educational and certification requirements set forth in the California State Fire Training Procedures Manual for Emergency Vehicle Technician II, while they have already met educational and certification requirements of Emergency Vehicle Technician I at the time of appointment or promotion.

Incumbents are required to fulfill and maintain the educational and certification requirements of California Emergency Vehicle Technician II within two years of appointment or promotion to Fire Apparatus Technician II.

The Fire Apparatus Technician II is distinguished from the Fire Apparatus Technician III in that the latter exercises a high degree of independent judgement, provides project oversight to subordinate staff and performs the most complex assignments that require extensive knowledge and proficiency.
