Maintenance Superintendent

Position Summary

The Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for leading all maintenance activities in a high-volume manufacturing environment that includes both paint operations and assembly processes.  This role ensures that all production equipment, paint systems, and facility infrastructure are maintained at peak performance with minimal downtime.  The Maintenance Superintendent provides leadership to the maintenance team, oversees preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and ensures compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities


* Supervise, direct, and schedule maintenance technicians across paint shop and assembly areas.


* Oversee daily maintenance activities to minimize equipment downtime and ensure efficient support to production.


* Develop and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs for paint booths, conveyors, robotics, curing ovens, HVAC, and assembly line equipment.


* Troubleshoot complex equipment issues, particularly with robotic systems, PLCs, and automated paint/assembly machinery.


* Partner with production supervisors to coordinate repairs, schedule planned downtime, and support continuous improvement initiatives.


* Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other safety/environmental standards, especially related to paint systems and hazardous materials.


* Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for major breakdowns and drive corrective and preventive actions.


* Manage maintenance parts inventory, tools, and vendor/contractor relationships.


* Track maintenance KPIs (MTTR, MTBF, downtime, work order completion) and provide regular reports to plant management.


* Train, mentor, and evaluate maintenance staff to build technical skills and ensure safe work practices.


* Support capital improvement projects, including equipment installation, upgrades, and facility expansions.


* Ensure proper documentation of equipment history, maintenance schedules, and compliance inspections.

Qualifications


* High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred.


* 7+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing facility with paint or assembly operations; 3+ years in a leadership role.


* Proven ability to lead a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.


* Strong problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.


* Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.


* Strong commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and quality standards.


* Strong technical knowledge of:
+ Paint systems (booths, curing ovens, spray equipment, environmental controls)
+ Assembly systems (conveyors, robotics, pneumatics, hydraulics, welding equipment)
+ Electrical and control systems (PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors)
