Sheriff's Records Clerk I

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Sheriff's Records Clerk I for the Palm Desert Station and may be used to fill an additional vacancy in San Jacinto.

The Sheriff's Records Clerk performs a wide variety of specialized clerical support services to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, which may include interacting with incarcerated persons, criminal database verification, providing assistance to the public and other branches of law enforcement; performs other related duties as required.

The Sheriff's Records Clerk I is an entry-level classification and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position.

Incumbents are expected to develop independent judgment to perform duties within standardized and established policies.

Incumbents will be required to develop an understanding of technical subject matter unique to the work and gather and inspect local, state and federal criminal history; apply penal codes, rules and regulations accordingly.

The Sheriff's Records Clerk I is distinguished from the Sheriff's Records Clerk II, which performs specialized support activities requiring knowledge and experience of law enforcement practices, policies and procedures.

The Sheriff's Records Clerk series differs from the Sheriff's Records/ Warrants Assistant series by having a more limited scope of responsibility in matters pertaining to warrants than the latter and is assigned to geographical locations outside of the central Sheriff's Information Services Bureau location.

The Sheriff's Records Clerk I is a natural progression underfill for the Sheriff's Records Clerk II.

Incumbents are eligible to promote to the Sheriff's Records Clerk II upon successful completion of their probationary period, which would include a satisfactory performance evaluation and any additional qualification requirements.

Competitive candidates will have clerical experience in a relative government or law enforcement agency.
