Optical Coating Tech I

The Optical Coating Tech I supports the manufacturing and production of advanced optical components used in aerospace and defense applications.

This role is responsible for the preparation, deposition, and quality assurance of thin-film coatings on optical substrates, following standard operating procedures with direct supervision of tasks.

This position will be hired to work on 1st shift.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, the Optical Coating Tech I follows written Standard Manufacturing Procedures and detailed Work Instructions to process a variety of optics through inspection, cleaning, loading/unloading, and operation of coating equipment.

Job Responsibilities Include:


* Follow both written and electronic work instructions, job aids, checklists and standard procedures


* Report issues, discrepancies or uncertainties to supervisor and engineering


* Delicately handle and clean optical surfaces utilizing a variety of chemical and mechanical means


* Inspect optics to ensure surface cleanliness and complete removal of all residue and particulate contamination prior to coating


* Learn and perform all aspects of vacuum coating chamber preparations and operations to include cleaning, foiling, sandblasting, and installing of system components and chemicals for deposition


* Load optics into designated tooling or fixtures in preparation for coating


* Operate, monitor, and record critical parameters of coating deposition during thin film production


* Unload coated optics and re-inspect for quality and to assure that no physical damage has occurred


* Prevent or correct deficiencies in surface quality and workmanship


* Work with maintenance, engineering, quality and operations teams to executive daily work


* Complete required training on time and with proficiency as required

Education & Experience


* High School Diploma / GED or equivalent related experience


* 1-2 years of optics, coating, cleanroom, deposition/thin film experience highly preferred


* Experience in an aerospace/semiconductor/manufacturing environment highly preferred

Skills


* Ability to clean, handle and inspect fragile and delicate components with care


* Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation


* Strong attention to detail and ability to follow verbal directions and written procedures


* Effective communication and collaboration amongst peers and with direct supervisor


* Flexibility to adapt to changing production schedule/assignments/demands and priorities

Working Conditions


* Cleanroom manufacturing environment - cleanroom attire required at all times


* Requires standing for extended periods of time


* Moderate noise level


* Frequently exposed to fumes, solvents, airborne particles where PPE is required
