Senior Research Scientist
Job Description
This position offers a highly qualified individual the opportunity to perform a critical role in leading and conducting cutting-edge research that aligns with the strategic goals of both the Systems Engineering Research Center (SERC) and the Acquisition Innovation Research Center (AIRC) as well as the needs of its sponsors.
This role involves strategic leadership, interdisciplinary research oversight, and stakeholder collaboration in support of SERC/AIRC’s mission as a high-impact research center.
The ideal candidate will be someone who appreciates that technology is continually changing how enterprises develop and organize the systems that drive creative solutions, innovation, and efficiency.
The successful candidate must possess: exceptional leadership and organizational skills; proven experience in research management and collaboration with defense agencies; excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders; and familiarity with large-scale, multi-year federal-sponsored awards.
Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
* Research management and execution to include the design, planning, and execution of complex, multi-year research projects, determining timelines, milestones, and resource allocation, and ensuring alignment with the strategic objectives of SERC/AIRC and its sponsors.
* Communicating and collaborating with SERC/AIRC leadership, project personnel, collaborative partners, and sponsors for strategic planning, research coordination, and compliance assurance.
* Providing expertise, guidance, mentorship, and training to research teams, including junior scientists and students, and ensuring adherence to research protocols and best practices.
* Proposal writing and funding responsibilities to include developing compelling research proposals for sponsors and managing associated budgets.
* Disseminating research findings in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at conferences, and generating technical reports for sponsors.
Requirements
* A doctoral or advanced degree in a relevant field such as Engineering, computer science, business or a closely related discipline.
* Extensive experience [10+ years] in defense or related sectors.
* Demonstrated ability to manage large multimillion-dollar federal awards successfully.
* Demonstrated leadership in managing research teams and projects, with a track record of successful collaboration and innovation.
* Ability to maintain a security clearance.
